ASPIRE Session: Honouring India’s Mathematical Legacy from Aryabhata to Innovation

Mathematics is the language with which God has written the universe.” — Galileo Galilei\r\nAn enlightening Aspire Talk was held on 26 July 2025 on the topic “Indian Knowledge System in Mathematics.” The session was conducted by Mr.Lokendra Singh Chauhan, Assistant Professor, Department of Science and Mathematics, Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Bhopal as the keynote speaker. \r\nHe highlighted the contributions of ancient Indian scholars, especially Aryabhata, covering the origin of zero, the place-value system, and time measurement. Concepts like Aryabhatiya, equinox, zodiac signs, AM/PM system, eclipses, and the Katapayadi system were explored. He urged students to focus not only on the injustices of British rule but also to take pride in the remarkable achievements of India’s historians and scholars. The talk concluded by emphasizing the importance of mathematical modelling and simulations in addressing real-world challenges, inspiring students to appreciate India's intellectual heritage.
